Breyer Orren Mixer Ideal Pony of the Americas
The Ideal Series pays homage to the stunning artwork of renowned equine artist Orren Mixer (1920-2008) and his most popular subjects – horses! Each hand-painted piece in this series was inspired by one of Mixer’s famed “ideal” horse breed paintings. Born in 1920 in Oklahoma, Orren Mixer is best known for his gorgeous artwork featuring Western scenes, livestock, and horses. After years working as a graphic artist and serving in the Navy, he returned home to Oklahoma and built his art studio. He rose to prominence in the 1950s and 1960s, and his artwork graced the covers of many well-known magazines, including Western Horseman. Over the course of his career, seven horse breed associations commissioned him to paint their breed’s ideal. These images are still used today, and have forever cemented Mixer’s place as one of history’s preeminent equine artists. Formed in 1954, the Pony of the Americas Club, Inc (POAC) was created by breed founder Les Boomhower to promote a “using type” pony for youth. His vision of a child-sized mount that possessed versatility, intelligence, and beautifully-patterned coats has blossomed into a registry of over 50,000! Ranging in height from 46 to 56 inches, POAs have a balanced appearance and Appaloosa coloring. While their Appaloosa lineage is apparent, Arabian, Welsh, Native American pony, and Quarter Horse bloodlines also contributed to giving the POA its trademark look of a refined “little horse.” When the POAC and Orren Mixer connected, the result was a stunning painting showcasing the breed’s beauty and versatility. Featuring two colorful stallions amidst the pastoral countryside, the bottom highlights several disciplines the POA can be found in: Lead line, barrel racing, Native American regalia, jumping, and Western riding. Completed in 1996, this piece hangs in the boardroom of the POAC’s Indianapolis headquarters.

Breyer Cheryl White | Rider, Horse, and Book Set
America's First Black Female Jockey The Jockey & Her Horse is a fictional novel inspired by the amazing true story of Cheryl White, who was only seventeen years old when she became the first Black female jockey in America. Cheryl’s real life broke barriers. On September 3, 1971, at Waterford Park in West Virginia, Cheryl galloped into history as the first Black female jockey to ever win a race, too. Astride her chestnut Thoroughbred Jetolara, bred and trained by her father Raymond, she demonstrated the skills and fortitude that would ultimately result in more than 750 wins over the course of her career. Cheryl was a pioneer, but she was also a torchbearer in the long legacy of Black contributions to Thoroughbred racing, a sport that was built on the labor of enslaved Black people. It is a story that the authors of The Jockey & Her Horse — Cheryl’s brother, Raymond Jr., and New York Times reporter and Pulitzer Prize finalist Sarah Maslin Nir — are proud to tell. Cheryl’s life was full of triumphs both on and off the track. A talented student, she appeared on “It’s Academic,” a televised student quiz show. Second to horses, she loved math and planned on being a math teacher if being a jockey didn’t work out. In high school, she was on the school yearbook staff, and a member of the Spanish, science, and pep clubs. Cheryl ran track and was the captain of her basketball team at Grand Valley High School — all while training to be a jockey! This gift set includes a 1:12 scale genuine Breyer model horse of Jetolara, race saddle and bridle, and fully-posable figure of Cheryl. Age 8+ Book

Breyer Gilded
2024 Spring Decorator In the early 1960s, Breyer released its first “decorator” models – horses that featured colorful, decorative finishes in both matte and glossy. Although they weren’t the most popular models at that time, decorators have since become some of the most beloved pieces in the Breyer line! The first decorator models were simple shades of blue and gold, either dappled or solid. Today’s decorators pull from a rich palette of colors and a variety of inspirations, including rainbows, holidays, and the night sky. Gilded is an exciting new take on the original blue and gold color palette, joining stunning metallic shades with a splashy pinto coat.
