Hinge Port
Equibrand Classic Tool Box Bit 8" Cavalry Square Hinge Port
This final cheek in the Tool Box is designed for the finished performance horse or tough-mouthed older horses where more control is needed. It can be used as a schooling bit to get a horse that is not responding to milder bits to collect and break at the poll. It is also often used in competition, and should not be used for daily training. The purchase is 2-1/2-inch and the shank 5-1/2-inch. The Cavalry designed shank is angled back to the horse, but at a straighter angle than the 7-1/2-inch model, causing a quicker, more immediate response. The purchase/shank alignment ratio increases leverage, creating greater realized pressure to all points of contact.

Toklat Myler: 89-64455 MBB Black Steel Flat Shank with Narrow Medium Ported Barrel
Myler MBB Black Steel 6 3/4" Medium Shank, MB 43MP Narrow Medium Ported Barrel, Level 2-3 The MB 43MP does not rotate onto the tongue but instead sits solidly across the bars and lips of the horse’s mouth. The port is narrower than a Level 3 mouthpiece but still offers room for the horse’s tongue to pass under the bit. Because the port is narrow, when the reins are engaged, the horse will feel a slight pressure on the outside edges of the tongue — a gentle reminder rather than a strong reprimand. The port on this mouthpiece is only 1 ½" high, so it will apply little to no palate pressure. The MB 43MP is the mildest of the Level Two-Three mouthpieces in terms of tongue pressure, just one step below a Level 3 mouthpiece. Sweet Iron mouthpiece oxidizes and encourages salivation. Independent Side Movement Sweet Iron Mouthpiece Copper Inlay Curved Mouthpiece does not pinch lips and bars Black Shank will discolor over time to an antique brown Stainless Steel Dots Notes: For more tongue pressure, see the MB 27LP. For more tongue relief, see the MB 41PB. For slightly less tongue relief or a lower port, see the 43LP. For the same benefits but with some palate pressure, see the MB 43HP. For the correctional version of this mouthpiece, see the MB 47 and MB 47PB. For the Level 3 version of this mouthpiece without Independent Side Movement, see the MB 12 or MB 98. The MBB shank is a length of flat black steel curved slightly back towards the horse, with a teardrop purchase and a rein ring. The mouthpiece has a fixed attachment to the cheek with a decorative “stack.” The shank is decorated with stainless steel dots. The purchase is angled slightly away from the cheek to avoid rubbing. The black steel will discolor over time to an antique brown. The MBB flat shank is an indirect (curb) rein action designed to be used with a curb strap that attaches to the purchase. This shank uses the combination of fixed cheek and fixed rein to apply pressure to the mouth, chin, and poll.

Toklat Myler: 89-64335 MBB Black Steel Flat Shank with Medium Wide Ported Barrel
Myler Black Steel 6 3/4" MBB Medium Shank, MB 33 Medium Wide Ported Barrel, Level 3 The MB 33 is the mildest Myler mouthpiece in terms of tongue pressure. The generously wide port allows room for the tongue to pass almost completely under the bit. Because this mouthpiece does not rotate onto the tongue and the port is wide, it applies little to no tongue pressure, working primarily off the lips and bars. The port on this mouthpiece is only 1 ½" high, so it will apply little to no palate pressure. Because the MB 33 offers such a high degree of tongue relief, the horse that goes well in this mouthpiece has a trustworthy and consistent disposition and is trained to work off the leg and seat as well as the hands. Sweet iron mouthpiece oxidizes and encourages salivation. Independent Side Movement Sweet Iron Mouthpiece Curved Mouthpiece Black Shank will discolor over time to an antique brown Stainless steel dots Copper Inlay Notes: For a slight increase in tongue pressure, see the MB 43LP or MB 43MP. For the same tongue relief without Independent Side Movement, see the MB 16 (Western only). For the same tongue relief and Independent Side Movement but with a slight degree of collapse, see the MB 05. For more generous tongue relief, see the MB 16PB. This shank uses the combination of fixed cheek and fixed rein to apply pressure to the mouth, chin and poll.

Toklat Myler: 89-11505 Flat Shank with Medium Wide Low Port MB 05 with Copper Roller
Myler Flat Shank with Low Medium Wide Port MB 05 with Copper Roller, Level 3 The MB05 is one of the mildest Myler mouthpieces in terms of tongue pressure. The generously wide port allows room for the tongue to pass under the bit. However, unlike the solid MB 33, the MB 05 collapses slightly although it does not fully rotate on to the tongue like a Level 1 or Level 2 mouthpiece. This gives the mouthpiece more give and may apply some light tongue pressure although it works primarily off the lips and bars. The port on this mouthpiece is only 1 ¼"" high, so it will apply little to no palate pressure. Because the MB 05 offers such a high degree of tongue relief, the horse that goes well in this mouthpiece has a trustworthy and consistent disposition, and is trained to work off the leg and seat as well as the hands. Notes: For a slight increase in tongue pressure, see the MB 43LP. For similar tongue relief without Independent Side Movement, see the MB 12. For the same tongue relief and Independent Side Movement, but with no collapse, see the MB 33. For more tongue relief, see the MB 16PB. The 7"" Flat Shank is stainless steel and curved slightly back towards the horse, with a flat-top purchase and a rein ring. The mouthpiece has a fixed attachment. The Flat Shank has the patented Independent Swivel Cheek, where the purchase, mouthpiece and shank all move independently of each other. The purchase is slightly angled away from the cheek to avoid rubbing. It has an indirect (curb) rein action designed to be used with a curb strap which attaches to the purchase. The flat shank uses the combination of the fixed cheek and fixed rein to apply pressure to the mouth, chin and poll. Action: Indirect Discipline: Western Degree of Leverage: Moderate

The MBL Shank is a length of flat stainless steel curved slightly back towards the horse, with a teardrop purchase and a rein ring. The mouthpiece attaches loosely to the cheek with a small decorative stack that allows ⅛" of slide, just enough to allow more tongue relief. The purchase is angled slightly away from the cheek to avoid rubbing. The MBT has the patented Independent Swivel Cheek, where the purchase, mouthpiece, and shank all move independently of each other. The MBL is an indirect (curb) rein action designed to be used with a curb strap that attaches to the purchase. The MBL uses the combination of fixed cheek and fixed rein to apply pressure to the mouth, chin, and poll. Recommended for use with ported mouthpieces.

Toklat Myler: 89-11485 Flat Shank with Correctional Ported Barrel
Myler Stainless Steel 7" Flat Shank, MB 47PB Correctional Ported Barrel, Level 2-3 The 47PB is a correctional mouthpiece, a ported mouthpiece that collapses onto the outer lip and bars and rotates onto the tongue. The port is narrower than a Level 3 mouthpiece but offers plenty of room for the horse’s tongue to pass under the bit. The angles of the port are rounded, so when the bit collapses and applies two points of pressure on the tongue, the pressure is mild. The port on this mouthpiece is 1 ⅞" high, so it will apply some palate pressure. Sweet Iron mouthpiece oxidizes and encourages salivation. Independent Side Movement Sweet Iron mouthpiece Curved mouthpiece does not pinch lips or bars Copper Inlay Notes: A horse with a thicker tongue or lower palate will feel more palate pressure. This mouthpiece is the correctional version of the MB 43HP and is identical to the MB 47, but with the added benefit of Independent Side Movement. For increased tongue pressure and the same palate pressure, see the MB 27PB or MB 27PB HP. For more tongue relief with the same palate pressure, see the 43HP. For less tongue pressure and little to no palate pressure, see the MB 43LP or MB 43MP. For the same mouthpiece but without Independent Side Movement, see the MB 47.
